Fractured crown at the gumline… “Can I just recement the crown?”
We recently completed a complex dental implant procedure for a patient with a long history of dental issues. This case involved an old root canal-treated tooth that had been crowned over 30 years ago. When the patient’s crown snapped off unexpectedly, she came in seeking to have the crown recemented. Unfortunately, the entire tooth had fractured at the gumline, making it impossible to recement or place a new crown, even with a post.
After a thorough examination, we determined that the best solution was to replace the fractured tooth with a strong, durable dental implant. This case presented a unique challenge: the patient had a beautiful smile with a distinctive shade of tooth color. Our top priorities were maintaining this symmetry and the natural appearance of her smile, while ensuring the health of her gingival tissues after healing.
Following the extraction, we carefully placed the implant in the ideal position, ensuring excellent bone integration and soft tissue healing. By using advanced digital technology, we were able to perfectly match the shade of her new crown with her existing teeth. As the post-surgical photos and X-rays show, the outcome was flawless. The patient was thrilled to regain her confident smile, and we were proud of the results!
